    Bruker Corp. acquired Inscopix Inc., a developer of miniaturized microscopes known as miniscopes, for freely moving animal brain imaging. Since Inscopix’s founding in 2011, its flagship miniscope systems have been deployed in over 600 research institutions and biopharma companies worldwide. This acquisition enhances Bruker’s position in in vivo brain functional imaging.

    JUPITER, Fla. — Jenoptik will expand its facility in Jupiter, Fla., by 7100 sq ft, supporting the company’s expansion of cleanroom manufacturing operations. Construction of the addition — named “Perseverance” to honor the group’s work on NASA’s 2020 Mars mission — will be completed in January 2023.

  • Pump Laser Modules Show Promise for Ophthalmologic Treatments

    Researchers at the Berlin-based Ferdinand-Braun-Institut (FBH) developed a pump laser module for ophthalmologic treatments. The module offers a cost-effective pump source for laser systems that are used to treat retinal detachments. The miniaturized module can be flexibly adjusted to provide the optimal wavelength for its intended application.

    The semiconductor-based, miniaturized laser module could provide a reliable, efficient way to provide laser surgery that is targeted to the condition being treated and could reduce the costs of ophthalmologic laser surgery.

  • Ayar Labs Strikes Government Contract, Eyes Growth

    Ayar Labs has been awarded a $15 million multiyear prototype Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) in support of Project KANAGAWA — the Co-Packaged Analog-Drive High-Bandwidth Optical Input/Output Project. The OTA, a nontraditional government contracting method for fast tracking research and innovation, was issued by Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division to support the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research & Engineering Trusted & Assured Microelectronics (T&AM) program.

    In a separate development, Ayar Labs also added two industry veterans to its executive team in newly created roles.
