New Fittings and Filters from IDEX Health & Science Increase Utility and Efficiency in UHPLC Systems

January 12, 2011: IDEX Health & Science has again expanded its UHPLC product offering to include new Upchurch Scientific® Very High Pressure (VHP) fittings and filters – both product lines are designed for use with elevated system pressures and provide an expanded product life.
The new VHP fittings are rated for use with system pressures above 10,000 psi (690 bar), and are designed to assure biocompatibility with either a 100% PEEK™ body or a proprietary PEEK-blend (PK) tip ferrule. The new fittings include the following:
- Three stainless steel fittings for pressures to 30,000 psi (2070 bar)
- Six reusable fittings for pressures to 25,000 psi (1720 bar)
- A reusable all-PEEK fitting rated to 10,000 psi (690 bar)
These fittings can be used for up to ten repeat assembly cycles, which reduces system downtime caused by changeovers associated with columns, sample loops, tubing, and inline filters. Intensive product testing has also demonstrated that there is no increase in carryover after 2000 injections when using these new fittings. An expanded line of tightening tools for achieving optimal torque with the VHP fittings is also now available.
To help increase system efficiency, the new inline and pre-column filters are rated to 15,000 psi (1034 bar). Both filter styles feature a choice of porosities in either 0.2 or 0.5 µm to help protect fluidic components from particulates and prolong the column life.
